    Default Observation & Question

I'm on a few different forums, and most seem to have a general "feel" to them. Anyway, I've noticed on here, that there seem to be a lot of "newbies" in relation to the regulars who post often and have been here awhile.
Is that indicative of this particular forum, and there is often a fresh rotation of newbies - that once they are comfortable just drop off?
Or is it just by chance that I happened to come on as a newbie myself as part of a "surge" that isn't usually this large?

I mean, with the subject of this forum, I would imagine there would be a steady flow of newbies, but I would think the ratio of regular long time posters would be higher.

    Comments from the "old guys"??

There is a steady core of us "Old Guys" here from the beginning although not all of us post that often. Some have other interests and obligations and may be absent for a month or two. Many of the frequent posters now were newbies just last spring but have been here daily asking questions, developing skills and gaining experience. They now tend to be the refequent responders helping the next rotation of new guys.

Many here have a habit of "passing it on". Newbies once they now freely shave information and often equipment, donating stuff to new guys to get them going. It's fun to see last years newbies with donated equipment now passing it on to another generation of beginners.

Part of the absence of some old timers is the simple development and life of any hobby. At first a newbie asks many questions and is here constantly, they quickly aquire razors and accessories as they search for the holy grail of shavers. There is this quest to corner the market on any shavable razor. Later as their skill increase many thin down their stuff to a basic core of what is really needed and what works for them. Their frequency of visits often follows this same pattern. Once seasoned hands they may ony be here once a week to check in.

While I frequent several boards myself this one seems like home to me and even when swamped at work and my business I still love to stop by and offer whatever advice I can.

    Welcome aboard,
    Tony

There's also a small contingent of us (1 at least) who found this place long after the major bloodletting was complete for us. We are bitter and cranky about this so we mostly keep to ourselves...

just kidding. I started posting recently so i am an SRP new also. I started with a straight razor 15 years ago, found this site about 5 years ago and finally got myself an ID this spring. Posted once or twice, went MIA for 6 months and now? I dunno. Felt like posting a little bit so I did. I'm probably in the minority, though... these guys here really know what they're doing and I'm glad they're vocal about it. If anything, SRP has really shown me how much of a self-taught HACK I am with these blades... lucky to be alive, really...

You see us old timers, we're like Santa Claus. We may not all post all the time but we know everything your doing. We know if you've been naughty or nice with your razors. You can't hide from us.
