Not certain so I'd suggest you try it on an ebay POS or some other carbon steel Guinea Pig before using it on something you don't want to ruin.

I was poking around looking for ways to look after celluloid after reading that they can disintergrate(another story) and found this+
http://www.uniclectica.com/conserva/razor1.html. Under the heading blade it gives brasso etc the thumbs down.
The Blade:
Metal polishes, such as Brasso, Silvo, or Autosol should never be used on the blade of a straight razor. As well as damaging the surface, they can leave polish residues which are bothunattractive, and can be harmful to the blade and handle.
But i like the advice of the previous thread anyway.

I have used Brasso and Maas metal polishes and oif the two I found Maas to work better. I didn't have any probs with either, though. I would say the main reason for the recommendation at Uniclectica is that as a collectible (not as a usable shaver) the unrestored condition is preferred. Just a guess though.

Hi-
Brasso works, but not as well as Maas, Flitz, etc. I use Brasso as a first step to get some of the gunk and tarnish off. Then I use jeweler's rouge to polish the blade. I figure that the rouge is removing a thin layer anyway, so all of the Brasso is long gone by the end.

I used gallons of Brass-O when I was in the Army. It takes way too much work for what you get and Maas does so much better with a lot less effort and it is much easier to control.

Thanked: 1587I've used Brasso (never been able to find Maas in Australia) on pretty much every old razor I owned with no ill-effects. However, now I use Autosol (another uniclectica no-no), as the Brasso never seemed to do too much.

I'm happy I "stumbled" upon this post ! Without thinking, I certainly would have tried Brasso ! THANK'S GUY'S, FOR THE "HEADS-UP" !
I use Flitz (as a rule-of-thumb).
Restored the old CaseĀ® that "what's-her-name" gave me.....(first with black emery compound), and then Flitz and a felt wheel on a Dremel.
It was totally RUSTED ! but after a lot of blood, sweat & tears, it looks like new, and will pass a standing-hair test !

I've used brasso and it did absolutely nothing to the blade...
Didn't shine, clean, nuthin'
I know it works great on belt buckles but keep it away from good steel.
