    Default Can You Believe This?!?

I just had a self indulgent day. I went to the tailor to get some new shirts made and then I thought, what better way to spend the rest of my afternoon off? RAZOR HUNTING of course! I went to a few shops and finally saw some straights in one (nothing too good though) and after a short conversation with the shop owner he told me something I can't believe. He said that he sharpens razors with 300 girt sandpaper on a hand held vibrating palm sander!!! I told him he should research razor honing and that I was pretty sure that it was a bad idea to sharpen a razor this way.

Good Lord! As for the strop, he's probably got a roll of 600 grit sandpaper pasted onto a plank of wood...

Funny, just tonight I clamped a blade in a vise and used a dual-action pneumatic sander with #320 grit.

Not on the edge, of course. just cleaning up the surface a bit....

    ON MY AXE.

you should have asked him to show you how he shaves.. tell him u want a demonstration.

oh the look on his face using a 300grit sandpaper finished blade would be amazing.

Of course the guy had a full beard. Too funny. It would be like shaving with a ginsu knife.
