Thanks, Don. I'm truly honored to be the first one posting here and I'm thrilled you're giving this a go!
I've done my intro elsewhere, but I'll gladly give it again here. I've always been interested in straight razors, starting from the first time I saw one of the old relics in my dad's sock drawer that belonged to a relative long passed. My father used to shave with one when I was really young, but moved on to the quick and easy disposables as many men did. I find the artistry in the actual blades and scales to be quite beautiful, as do I find the art of the perfect shave (or trying to attain) to be a beautiful thing. It's a ritual I don't want to see lost.
I'm fortunate enough to have met a seasoned veteran in the world of straight razors who is willing to teach me to shave without maiming. I'm super excited as I'd like for this ability to be something special I can give to others, in the way of a nice relaxing shave, or to teach others when I'm competent to do so. I'd also like to use straights to give myself a closer shave, as the Venus just doesn't cut it these days .
I've recently purchased a Wade Butcher spike and I'm looking at other purchases. I'm definitely interested in learning honing techniques, as well as all other forms of maintenance. Although I'm new to SRP, I've found it to be a wealth of information beyond imagination. Thank you all.
I'm 31/F... and a Gemini... sorry, just being hokey. I'm excited to read about and meet other women who find themselves in this world of straight razors, so please JOIN IN!
Thanks again, SRP!Last edited by Viola; 04-15-2008 at 04:52 AM.

Thanked: 213Great post if women would realize how much better it is for there skin. So many women spend tons of money on creams to keep there legs smooth but do not realize it is how they are shaving that is causing most of the problems, same with us guys we just do not talk about it but straight shaving makes our faces smoother and healthier.

Afternoon Ladies,
Well Viola, so far it's me and you sweetpea. I'm not sure how much I can contribute about shaving because I am fair skinned, with fine hair......so I've been blessed with fine hair elsewhere too....lol.
Shaving is just shaving to me. However I REALLY do like to use the shaving brush on my legs for simple reason that it FEELS GOOD. I stand on my feet at least 10 hours or more a day, and it seems to help my muscles relax in the evening.
I've never had any difficulties with shaving....... I love straight razors, simply because I love straight razors....well that, and I love men too.... I like the world of men, and have always been more at home with men than with a group of women.
You know....the neighborhood tomboy.....that'd be me

Thanked: 20Well, I don't shave. I did the laser hair removal years ago and it was probably the best thing I have ever done for myself.. I no longer have to worry about not being groomed.. (in that way anyway ;-) ) So I really don't know what I would have to offer here, but I want to post here anyway because I am so excited that Don let us do this!
Thank you Don! This means an aweful lot to me!! Hello Ladies! Woohoooooo!!

I'll probably have a lot more to contribute when I finally lay hands on a straight razor and get to play with it a bit (mid-June). Right now I'm thinking most about creams/lotions/balms and such. I'm sensitive to smells, and can't use anything with alcohol in it because the scent makes me retch. I'm looking for products (both for my bf and for me) that don't have floral or "masculine" scents and don't smell like alcohol.
I'm lookin' at you, Mama Bear. Help me out here!

Thanked: 20In this way I can contribute! I am all excited now..
I have found that women do not like aftershave splashes at all... we don't like the alcohol. I have never understood alcohol splashes, but it makes sense if you think of it being used as both a cologne and an aftershave..
but, yeah, I think it is a guy thing....
Aftershave balms are the way to go.. in a pinch, you can even just use lotion, but many of the nice balms out there have ingredients that are really formulated to be used as an aftershave and are fantastic for it. Aftershave balms typically are alcohol free.
Regarding fragrance... a note for all. Perfume is perfume.. whether it be used for a man or a woman. Perfume is the term for a full strength fragrance... EDT is diluted with alcohol and cologne is even more diluted. However the scent itself has really been misnamed with the male and female terms.. as an aside, an aftershave splash is simply an even more diluted version of cologne.
There are fragrances that mostly a man would like.. and fragrances that mostly a woman would like and it is alright to use the terms as a guideline. However, many men really enjoy a floral and many woman really enjoy some male scents.. for instance, I don't like florals but I wear Aqua di Gio pour Homme myself.. I adore it!
Most fragrances are truly unisex. You might get lucky and find something that both you and your bf like, but the odds are slim.. fragrance is a very personal thing.
With that said.. buy an quality aftershave balm that smells good to you. I guess I got long winded...

Mama Bear, you need to make your website scratch-n-sniff.
