One Year anniversary
It's been just over a year since I started shaving with a straight, and what I discovered is quite surprising. Some of the things I have found:
I have learned a new skill, that that alot of guys are afraid to try,i have yet to cleave my ears or nose from my face, as was predicted, that mug soap is much better than a can of goo, and that it is ok to shave commando.
I have also found that razors have a way of multiplying- I started out with 2, a Dubl Duck that is nigh unusable, and a Geo Wostenholm, that I still use to this day.....those 2 have turned into ten-...four of which are in rotation. Brushes also multiply, from having only one usable, I have went to four, as do mugs, and soaps.
I have also discovered that people who shave with straight razors are generally more grounded. Probably becaue, Straight shavers have to use patience in mixing, stropping, shaving and honing, whereas the average shaver, pushes a button on his can of goo, slaps on a new cartridge for his multi-blade razor, shaves, tosses his cartridge and he's out the door. He is in such a hurry that he doesn't enjoy the shaving experience. There is a sense of accomplishment, (and a touch of nostalgia), in shaving the way Great Grandpa did.
For those of you who were here when I first started my journey, I tip my hat to you, and say thanks for helping it to happen.Last edited by freebird; 04-25-2008 at 01:38 AM.

oh, yes lol. If I relax just a little too much WHAM, it's snuck up and bit me. Fortunately, I avoided any scarring where it was noticable. I was shaving and all relaxed and I'm not sure what happened, other than I got it on the left side of my neck, just at the collarbone. I think what may have caused the problem was shaving over an old surgical scar.....I had a cyst taken out of my neck at 4 years old, the doc cut my throat from one ear to the other, a sicilian necktie if you will. Anyway, the scar doesn't show as it is always under the collar of even a t-shirt..

Most guys who have been shaving awhile will never admit to nicking themselves but every now and then I will. Of course I have 90 razors so as I keep rotating I never seem to get fully familiar with all of them so every now and then I'll pick one up I don't use that much and forget to watch out for this or that with it. Or my Tosuke which always bites me every time I use it.

Congrats on your anniversary!!! It's been about 18 months for me and I still occasionally nick myself. However, the nick is so superficial that coldwater and witchazel usually close them. Worst case, a little styptic pencil does the job...
Happy one year anniversary!

Yo! Tony congrats on your anniversary hope that you have many more. This is a super hobby/obsession that most will not try because it takes too much time and is pretty intimidating to think of putting a blade to your face that will cut you in a heartbeat.
if anything has been abnormal for a long enough period it then becomes normal.
