Thread: Photographing Razors

Has anyone used a flatbed scanner to photograph their Razors for listing on ebay?
I tried it on mine & although it doesn’t show much of a shine it defiantly shows more detail!
It got me to thinking when you come across a razor on ebay you would like to bid on & you cant see it properly then ask them to scan it! Post the picture on a free image host like http://imageshack.us/
Then you can see it in real detail. It is a lot easier for them if they aren’t very good with a camera. You never know if it spreads it could be an end to crappy pictures.

I have posted some razor pictures (one each side with a 6mp camera) & a scanned picture at 150dpi.

I also tried it at 1200 for my own interest I have posted a small portion of the picture

I have measured the circle on the razor & the picture is 12 times larger

I have tried other items & most turn out fairly well

That's a pretty good trick; I'll have to try it. I usually take macro shots of things with 3rd party light sources like desk lamps and such, with my digital camera, but the scanner makes sense.

I've had great results with detail shots by using a light-diffusing box made of a gutted cardboard box, covered with paper towels and with a desk-lamp shining through. Started with razors at home and moved onto documenting the R&D process for some exotic gadgets at work.
