It really makes no difference whether you use a straight or a DE its still a personal preference thing. One doesn't work any different with a straight than with a DE.
I prefer soaps to creams but use both.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I have read a few times that soap may be preferred over creams for use with a straight razor. It has more lubricity, and a cream has more cushion for a DE. That may be a myth. I personally have found little difference using a soap with a DE or a cream for a razor. I still prefer the soap though. I like the lighter feel.

I lean towards soap. I really like Colleen's soaps. She makes them a lot better then I do. The best cream I've used is Trufitt & Hill's Ultimate. I usually save the cream for travel.

Thanked: 4942I was a committed soap user exclusively for years until I found the Castle Forbes creams. There are other creams I like and definitely soaps that I still enjoy, but the CF is simply the best suds out there in my opinion.

Thanked: 953I don't think it's a myth so much as it spplies to some people and not others. Personally, I prefer soaps to creams with DE, but even more so with straights. Probably just because I'm fairly new to straight shaving so the increased feedback and slickness really helps. I do go back and forth, but probably use soaps 60% of the time.

I like to use a puck when I can enjoy a good shave.
Though if I am pressed for time I will use a cream.

Creams, definitely.
Not only do they not melt away from the face like soaps, but their lather is so easy to produce. I hear people who talk about their soaps and brushes say, "I had a nice lather in only two or three minutes!" That's an eternity! I want my lather in ten or fifteen seconds, and that's when I get it...with creams!

I like both, but I think I prefer creams.. And just for the feel of it, I prefer them in tubs instead of tubes...

Colleen's soap is my favourite ATM, I like her cream less but do like Proraso and Palmolive sensitive creams.
