    Hey there everyone!

Just wanted to check in. I have been reading the site for the past couple of weeks, and WOW there is a ton of info here! As you may have deduced from my name, I am Adam, and I live in the peoples republic of Massachusetts. I have shaved with straight razors in the past, mostly the disposable blade type, but on occasion a real straight. I come from a family of barbers and hair dressers, and have been professionally shaved a number of times.

With the recent passing of my grand father, my mother gave me a number of the straight razors that he had used throughout his years as a barber. I sent one out to Lynn to get honed up the right way, and started reading here, and then buying stones to get the others shave ready. While waiting for the razor to come from Lynn, I also started to develop a bad case of RAD, and recently I had to make myself leave Ebay alone for a while

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself, and say thanks to the members here for a truly nice and respectful forum.

    Adam

Now here is a chance for me to learn something: If one of the razors belonged to your grand pop why would it need to be sharpened, wouldn't it be shave ready already since it came from your grand pop?

    Well,
A couple of months ago, my grandfather gave all of his razors to my mother (also a barber) but he had been retired for around 10 years or so, and none of his stuff had even been looked at since then. The one that I sent off seemed to be pretty sharp, but I didn't want to take the chance of mucking up a blade while in the learning process. Also, it wasn't just 1 razor from grand-dad, I ended up with 6 of them, including a beautiful damascus blade.

Adam, welcome to the group, I hope you enjoy your time here. As you can already tell there will be great interest in your new razor "collection" - and the only way to curb the feeding frenzy is with pictures. So make sure to post as soon as you can so our collective jealousy can peak...

Thanks guys. I'll be sure to take a couple of pictures soon, seeing how I just got the razor I sent to Lynn back today. BTW WOW, it looks great! I can't wait to run that thing over my face!!!
