Barber shaves in the Mpls news
The Minneapolis Star Tribune has an article (online here) today about the growing trend of barber shaves and man-spas. The article lists local places that offer straight razor shaves and their prices. It also briefly touches on shaving yourself too, talking about how it's a green way to shave and how nice it feels.
Anyway, I was a little excited to see a large picture of a man getting shaved when I opened the paper.

Thanked: 15Good read!
I just forwarded that to my mother. She has been a barber for close to 30 years now, and she told me the other day that she really wants to start offering shave services in the shop she works in now. Shaving was something that my grandfather specialized in throughout his career as a barber, and she wants to get back to it.
She seemed to think that her current boss would have an issue with her offering it, but I can't see how he would have a problem getting a % of a $21 service. It just doesn't make sense to me. I told her that if her boss will let her do it, I will come down to her shop at some random busy times and let her shave me so people can see it being done, and want to try it out...

Very cool and a great read. Funnily enough, I was going to be heading to the haberdashery they list in the side panel next week anyway. I guess I will have to see how their shaves are as well.

Good read. Be sure to scroll down and read the reactions some posted to the article. The first post (when I read it) from the guy who thinks it's crazy to spend 30 min and $21 for a shave when he uses his Mach II is the definitely the sentiment of the vast majority of men. Too bad. They don't know what they're missing!

I haven't been to the haberdashery, but it's on my list of places to visit in St. Paul. Have you been there before? I always see their ads with Mustache Jim in the local weeklies.

Thanked: 2209I have not been to any of the shops listed in the article simply because I did not know they existed. Now that I do they are on my to-go list.

This will be a first time for me, but I've been looking forward to going there for a while now. Now that I know they give shaves, I'll have to give them a try for that as well.

rookie shaver
Hi I am in Minneapolis and have decided to switch to wet shaving. I can't believe I have been dissatisfied with shaving so long and not thought to look into this. So here is my question. Can I buy supplies locally and if so where? I want to support local business and be able to get more if i need. Second, what do you recommend for start. Straight razor? Safety razor? Or just the horrible disposable and the brush and good soap for a few weeks?
