a slow down on my straight shaving
I was clean shaven for over a month playing John Adams in American Primitive. I thought this would be a great time to perfect my straight honing, etc. I seemed to get worse instead of better. The beard (see avatar) is back and I'm cleaning up the edges w/ a DE or Schick injector. I intend to go back to the straight again eventually, but definitely will be taking my time.

You may want to have one of your razors put back into shape by one of the honemeisters. It can then serve as a standard that you can use to check your honing skills against. Just a thought... ... ...

You also might want to consider letting someone (like myself, for instance) make sure your razors continue receiving gentle use and care so that they do not go stale

Oh yes. I always go back to it. When really sharp, nothing does a better job. I was just discouraged with my honing. I seemed to make them worse instead of better. One of my four is really shave ready, a beat up old Electric Cutlery 4/8 that I won over on Straightshaving.org. When I have some good free time, I'll go back to honing the others. Meanwhile my local Wal-Mart has Personna DE blades on sale for $1.56 for a 10 pack, and I'm using my Merkur Slant Bar HD and my dad's old Gillette SuperSpeed quite a lot lately.
