Are you the only one?
Got to thinking about this this afternoon. It seems I'm the only one in my family who is a shaving addict. I tend to get strange looks when I get another razor or soap, and when I get ready to shave they don't say much, but I can tell by the looks that they are mentally shaking their heads wondering where they went wrong.
Do you get the same reactions? Are you the only one in your family with this addiction?

I am also the only one in my family with this addiction... my father looks at it like another of my expensive taste for luxury but had to admit that wet shaving with a straight did good to my skin (he doesn't have any problem shaving only one pass against the grain with the Gillette 3 blades... no irritations no nothing...); my mother and my sister don't have any strong opinion about it but seem happy that I have found a comfortable way to shave and a new hobby that is making me happy.
The real wonder in all this is my wife: she supports me 100% and understand fully my new addiction - hobby. To be honest, she never said anything about the money involved in it, and that's just wonderful... but I am also aware that I have to calm down my ADs not to put in danger our life... we are both students and our budget is quite tight...

I get those looks from my family as well. I orginally started really getting into because my dad introduced me to using the brush and mug lather, and I loved it; even though I was still using a gillette fusion exclusively. My father and mother think its cool, but frivolous, and my identical twin, more like opposite, thinks i wasted money when I showed him my NOS filly 13 and a scuttle I purchased. My girlfriend thinks it really cool, however, and supports my new found joy in shaving with a straight razor. I would have to say I am the only one in my family, even the extended, who has the addiction.

Yep I am the only one in my family with a taste for the little bit extra while shaving.
Neither my father or my grandfathers have ever used anything other than a Gillette type razor and shaving foam from a can.
Most people I know look at shaving as a thing they just have to do, and they do it as fast as possible. I have not been telling about my new found love for shaving to friends or family, only my wife, but I do get plenty of strange looks from my wife when something new arrives and I just cant wait to try it out!

I, too, get the little roll of the eyes. But she likes the outcome nonetheless...

Great topic. Ain't it the truth.
I have been getting weird looks for months now when I bring up razors to my family and friends. Both my father and brother are still shaving with electric razors. Although my old man seems to have come around and might give it a shot, with a bit more convincing. He's started buying me razors, which is cool. Same with my mom, who's a regular at the local swapmeets on the weekends.
Someone in chat last night asked if my old man might be lurking in the forums. He might be. He seems to know alot about SE's all of a sudden. If so I'll ask him to give an intro.

Every man I know (family, friend or acquainted) hates shaving.
We, on the other hand, look forward our next shave. I, personally, sometimes evaluate other man's shave results by looking at his skin and get to the same conclusion: a shave in a hurry with a disposable razor (am I the only one doing this?)
We are strange persons, indeed.
