Thanked: 9Todd Sweeny 1rst look
Forgive me but I'm a little slow watching movies.. saw Sweeny last night for the first time. I couldn't stop laughing.. from the first flash of the huge blade (made me almost fall on the floor cracking up), to the 3 second competition shave by the "Master", and the blood gurgling streak the maniac barber was on, it was just too funny. (or am I a sick puppy?) My wife was horrified and eyeballed me suspiciously wundering why I found humor in such a blatantly violent film. (mutering under her breath "don't get any ideas).
Kinda made me want to have a 6" bladed monster with sterling handle...ehehe

i watched it tonight while i was honing my Wade & Butcher and i must say that i could take it or leave it. the straight razor stuff that was done wrong didn't really bother me as i know it was all very over dramatized for effect, but the movie really was just not my thing. i didn't hate it and i will probably have a view again and maybe get something more from it but i just didn't see the point. i should try to find the old version and check it out to compare.
BTW i will admit that the razors look pretty cool. i am way to cheap but having a real shave ready version would be pretty cool to be able to use.

I'm sure one of our custom razor makers could whip up something...
Agreed on the Angela Lansbury version: much better. The original is really almost more of a very dark comedy than a full-on tragedy.

Hearing Alan Rickman sing is MUCH more horrifying than the bloodletting aspects of the movie. The actual shaving concepts are nothing less than hilarious.
