    Default Keep it Quiet!

If you pass through Soligen and don't at least take a look at some of the beautiful straights they have, when you get home , I wouldn't talk about it too loud around straight shavers. It's the Mecca of straight razors!

I do not have the address for the Dovo factory but here is the address and phone of Mr. Wacker and his website. He grinds a lot of razors. His son speaks English and perhaps you could get a tour and a chance to see some primo razors.

I'm back from the short trip. It was insane...

People didn't even know what DOVO was! I asked 5 people for directions, the 5th (the owner of the local gun store) knew where I had to go. Unfortunately, it was closed. There was NO SIGN whatsoever in the town that they were even slightly connected to the knifemaking craft, I was absolutely not expecting this!

Unfortunately I did not have the address of Wacker so that I did not see. I did go to the three local shops. The DOVO they sold were extremely plain and were priced almost EXACTLY the same as in Belgium (and when I look at online stores, this means more expensive then in the US), unfriggin believable, talk about a let down :-D I was loaded with a good amount of cash, to buy a nice 'real' dovo from solingen, or at least 'a' razor from solingen.

The town is ok if you like discount stores I guess, but I strongly advise against going there if your only goal is to find razors :-D I'm glad the town was on my way home so I didn't have to lose time for this, and I saw the town, but that's about it. The people I asked about for Dovo were not 15 year olds or something, I asked about every age category above 30, and 4 out of 5 didn't know what Dovo was. When asking about knife stores, or at least a store to buy my girlfriend a pair of scissors from 'Solingen' (whatever brand!) I had to go to ANOTHER town Plenty of TABAC soap available though...

Dovo does not even have a 'store' in Solingen, this was also 20 minutes away from the town. I went there (obviously, I had money to spend!) and the store sold ... 4 razors. Not 4 kinds or types of razor, I mean 4 razors, and two were shavettes.

I think in all honesty, the price difference was there indeed, but it was mostly something around 5-10 EUR, and that's nothing to write home about :-)

I can't believe I went to Solingen and did not buy a straight razor

Well, you made me feel good. Last summer I went to Dusseldorf in a small business trip and at certain point I was only at 20 Kms away from Solingen. At the time, if I was to stay a little longer, I would have gone there, but since it's like you told, I'm happy I didn't. I wouldn't look for Dovo though, maybe Wacker.
