Thanked: 488Keen Kutter Hone History
1906
With its soaring brick tower, the Keen Kutter building at 830 East First Street was a defining feature of Wichita’s turn-of-the-century skyline. The Keen Kutter brand of tools was created in 1879 by E.C. Simmons of St. Louis, MO, a pioneer in the use of catalogues as a major sales tool. The tool manufacturer was owned by Morton-Simmons Hardware Company of St. Louis, MO and sold tools throughout the country. Today, the building has been restored to a 115-room hotel in the heart of Old Town, with the façade and distinctive brick tower true to their original form.

Thanked: 369Very cool. I love when historical old buildings such as this are preserved for posterity. Especially those that are barber/ straight razor related. So many get demolished and forgotten.
I love seeing the faded old advertisements still showing on the exteriors of many of these old brick structures.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanked: 488My pleasure! I got one of the Kleen Kutter hones and was curious about the history behind them especially since this one was in the original old metal box with the old time writing on it. I did the old Google thing and that's what came up. I do love the old buildings and your right the very old advertisements that are still painted on some buildings.
I thought some of you would enjoy it.
