Default Evidence of surge in popularity of straights?

I think it says an awful lot about the way shaving is going if the likes of Boker see a market for straight razors once again. It's fantastic that they are re-establishing themselves in a market that they once believed was no longer profitable & a thing of the past. I know that there are countless guys using straights that are not members, but in terms of promotion this site is at the forefront.

The admin fellas & mods obviously do an awful lot of work, but this is directed at the members too. When a new guy first appears he is warmly welcomed. His questions are answered & discussed. His knowledge developed & his daily shave becomes a hobby!

I'm sure many members here have given encouragement to interested friends & often the push they need to get them started too.

I find it a very positive sign & hopefully others will follow them, offering us greater range & an opportunity for dying skills to be brought to life once again & maybe the chance for me to get a spanking new Wusthof!

OOoh nooo Ben.. now you've got me wanting another razor...a "Dreizack" razor would really match my kitchen knives...

but on topic: I really hope a lot of people will start to use straights or DE's again.. its a lot more fun than cardridges and canned goo..It would make things a bit easier to get in the local stores.

Besides membership at the shaving .coms, I wonder if there are any realistic statistics regarding the actual # of folks shaving with a str8. I didn't say "men" cause I know there are those of the fairer sex who also use the cutthroat.

I can't begin to think how you'd gain accurate figures. You couldn't go on sales, like the disposables. They're not replaced in the same sense & many people are using vintage blades. Boker must have based their production on some sort of figures though. Sales of Dovo's, Thiers & the fact that there are quite a few custom makers who are able to remain in business maybe? Memberships of sites such as this even?

I think people forget that before this and all the other sites existed there were always people who were closet straight users and I think their numbers would surprise all of us. Certainly this site has encouraged many more to try straight razors but in the end I think straight use will always be a pretty specialized market. Also don't forget though many appear to take it up we don't know how many do it for awhile and for one reason or another drop it and go back to other modes of shaving.

I guess you could commission some company to do an official pole to find out what % of the population uses a straight.
