    Default Parkerizing

I've been wondering if anyone has Parkerized a str8 razor? I have parkerized a couple of my pistols and a knife. I'm thinking of experimenting on one of my ebay specials to see what happens. The parkerizing should help prevent rusting. What do ya think?

I think if it was that great an idea, orders for Uncle Sam or King Gillette's advertising prowness would have done that already ..... a drop on oil on each side is not that much to ask. Besides, the critical part of the blade, the edge, would need to remain exposed.

Actually, that is a pretty interesting idea. There are a lot of finishes that are even better than parkerizing, and I have had friends do most of them to their guns with fabulous results. The better ones are very hard and stop rust cold in its tracks. The down side is that they are very expensive, which to answer Davids question, would be one reason why you don't see more of it. There would also be a question what it would do to the characteristics of thin metal by the edge...it may deteriorate it in the process, depending on which coating you opted for. I wouldn't think there would be a problem re-establishing the edge, as the finishes are scratch resistant, not scratch proof. I think having a carbon blade that you didn't have to worry about rusting has definite advantages. Of course, you can kiss any collector value goodbye. Hmmmm...spend more money to make your razor worth less. I think I see why no one is going that route on older razors. Still, I kinda like the idea on an old non-collectible "user" razor.
