Thanked: 6strange scales
Hello everyone,
Some time ago a bought a razor from marktplaats (sort of Dutch eBay). But I don't know what kind of material the scales are. There are some small bumps in the scales bit too small to photograph. But is there an easy way to restore the scales? The blade has some rust on it but that should not be a problem.
Some extra info on the razor. On the etching it says "marque de qualite "Le Grelot" medaille d'or Paris 1931" so the razor 57 years older than me . On the tang is some writing "Le Grelot P.hospital & CLE Thiers (France)" I'm not sure about the CLE it looks a bit weird like a the E is in the L. But enough talking here are the pictures.

Its really hard to tell from the picture. It could be celluloid and it could be or horn or some type. if you rub them with your hand kind of hard and fast and they produce a peculiar odor its celluloid. If it has a bumpy surface I would guess its horn. They or celluloid can be polished up with something like cape cod polishing cloths or some really soft rouge like yellow rouge. Plastic is also a possibility but depending on the age and whether those are original scales and the bumpiness I doubt it.
