Chicago (and Area) Barber Shops
Does anyone know of any good barber shops in the Chicago-metro area? I got a straight razor shave in one of the Western Suburbs, but it was a regular barbershop. The chair was upright, and alcohol was sprayed on from a spritz bottle onto my face. It hurt...but once that subsided it felt great.
I'm trying to explain to my friends how great a real good shave can feel. I know there's an AOS opening in Schaumburg at the Woodfield Mall, but have a feeling they'd overcharge.
Anyone know of places out here to get a quality (see: balm, not alcohol) shave in a reclining chair?

Good evening, Chadd,
I used to live in Joliet. When I left (1997) there was a barbershop on Raynor called Banana Joe's. There were three barbers and all used str8s to clean up after a haircut. I never saw anyone get a shave there, but a couple of guys got their heads shaved with str8s.
I just googled it
718 N. Raynor Av.
Joliet, IL 60435
815-722-9851
Give them a call and see if they'll give a str8 shave. I'm in Oregon now or I'd still be going there. The place smells of Pinaud Clubman. Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks to all, but these places are COSTLY!
I mostly want to take some friends out to show the skeptics how great a straight shave can be. I found a place in Huntley and Hoffman Estates called Beardsley's Barber Shop that will do it for $18. The owner and I have been talking via email for a while now, and I'm trying to turn him onto the brush and scented lather (he uses hands with a hot lather machine).
I'll be sure to let everyone know how it is. $18 is way better than $35 (the next cheapest I've found). There's a place in Elgin that does it for $6, but he uses the alcohol straight on, and the chairs don't recline.

I don't suppose there is any update on how that barber was is there?
I'm coming up to Chicago to visit some friends in July and I'm going to make an appointment for us all. The two of them have never had a proper shave (me either for that matter, just me shaving myself) and I want to make sure they thoroughly enjoy it.
I've read about State Street Barbers, but just reviews on the haircuts. A few people stated they felt rushed and were disappointed when they used clippers instead of scissors.
I would hate to make appointments there just to find out that they rush a shave just to get the next appointment in the chair on time.
I've already made appointments at Truefitt and Hill since Lynn says it's the bomb, but if there is something just as wonderful with more value then I'll try it out instead.
