    Default chips? brand new dovo

So I need your guys opinion about these chips or maybe just one chip that appeared on my dovo.

This razor hasn't been dropped or subjected to any weird gravity tests or any stability tests against the sink. Nothing of that sort, just was honed by a hone master and used to shave once.

Does it seems like I should stop using it? I'm brand new to this and have no prior experience with straights. Only did the DEs for a while now.

Also, can it and should it be restored?

    Thanks!

Hi Schone, welcome to SRP. I would send that out to an SRP honemiester. It obviously isn't shave ready and from what I can see in the photos (which isn't much) there is nothing there that a good`honing wouldn't take care of. BTW, if you ordered it shave ready a trip back to the vendor might be in order.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    schone,

I can't see the defects, but if you have issues with the razor send it back to whomever honed it and ask for a touch up. If there are chips in the blade from honing it may be a defective blade which the seller should stand behind. It does appear that you should be more careful in wiping it after your shave as the spots indicate that it may not have been dry enough when you put it away and it's possible that what you interpret as chips may be small rust spots.

Yes. If it was one of the honemeisters here most will do a free touchup. It's hard to tell from the pics but the blade doesn't look new? And I'd assume that being new you didn't really look at it closely when you first got it.

As far as not using it? Give it a shot. Gently. See if it scratches or irritates. You would want to get it touched up/fixed but maybe it's not convenient for you right now or you can't wait to use it for a bit before waiting again . It may be usable, just not optimal or as good as it could be. A nick or chip is not gauranteed to gouge your face. It might just scratch a bit or you might not notice it at all.

I do not see the chips that you mention in these pictures but I could be wrong. I remember reading about about a similar case recently. The "imperfections" of the blade turned out to be camelia oil added by the honemeister to protect the blade plus some debris from the applicator or something silly like that. If you have not done so, wash the blade, and if you do not see damage of the edge, follow the homeister directions (strop or not) and shave with it. If the razor is not sharp, then contact the honemeister about it.

    Al raz.
