Thread: Dalby, Queensland Australia

Just learned about a job in Dalby, Queensland Australia that I will be heading to on Friday.

Wanted to know if any SRP members are in the area. I will be flying out of Houston Texas with an arrival of Sunday there. This will be a 1 month job and I plan to bring my straights and and DE just in case.

Any do or don't I should know before getting there? I know there is good beer there.

I'm normally based in Brisbane, but I'm just getting started with the whole straight razor thing. I know Jimbo is also from Brizzy. Greg I'm not sure about.

Unfortunately I'm currently out of town with work (staying in inglewood). On the plus side - i found a reasonable boker "celebrated hollow ground" in the local antique store and have plenty of time to fart around trying to restore it

Thanks for the info. I will fly from Houston to Denver, Denver to Los Angles, Los Angeles to Sidney, and Sidney to Brisbane. I will meet people there and drive to Dalby.

I have been a little worried about my razors getting confiscated. Sure would not want that to happen. My cell phone will not work there I hear. I plan to use Skype and Email to communicate with my family.

If you get stuck and need access to a hone or two, please let me know. I'm in Brisbane and pretty easy to get to from the road that comes from Dalby to Brisbane.

Hope you didn't have too much trouble at customs Mostly they are worried about fruits and foods bringing in diseases that would wipe out our crops.

Oh - if you are going to be driving out in the country (and out of town) a few pointers:

1. Kangaroos are big, you don't want to hit one.
2. They are most active at dawn and dusk - avoid driving at this time.
3. Look for the eyes reflecting your headlights, that is the best way to spot them
4. If you do have one in front of you DO NOT Swerve, break hard, but don't swerve or your will likely loose control and roll over (I speak from experience here ).

I have been here a week now. I am involved with the ethanol plant here.
Customs was not a problem. They were concerned with foreign dirt on my shoes and that was about it. They were nice and polite.
The driving on the left side can be challenging but has been OK. The blinkers and windshield controls are always a problem for me.
The people here have all been great, very friendly and helpful.including the ones with a red stripe on its belly.

I have the same problem with the blinkers and wiper controls - both the cars that I drive have them on opposite sides!

I did neglect to mention that we have some of the worlds most poisonous creatures

Are you referring to our red bellied black snakes ? They're good to have around. They keep brown snakes away which are responsible for most snake bite deaths in Oz. As for tiger snakes & taipans well... just keep your distance

I would have never thought a spider would keep a snake away, wow.

We have been very busy with the ethanol plant but I hope it will get lined out so I can get out and about to do some looking around.

The coastal area is beautiful. Everyone has been great here.

My bad. You must have been talking about red-back spiders.

You wrote 'red stripe on belly' so thought you were talking about red belly black snakes.
