    Default Thanks a million, Maximilian!

This weekend I visited the home and workshop of Max Sprecher (Maximilian). I wanted to see his shop and his razors, do a little work on my razor, and learn a bit. If you haven't seen Max's work, you've got to check it out here:

Vintage Straight Razors, DE Razors, Honing & Restoration sevices, Sharpening and Shaving

Max is an intriguing man. He has been a model, photographer, designer, diamond polisher and is currently an excellent straight razor restoration specialist. You can see in his work his eye for detail and composition as well as an appreciation for quality. When Max hones a razor, he works from memory, never making notes or consulting manuals. Rather, he constructs a mental image based upon the information he has gathered with his jeweler's magnifying glass. His work and his style reflect a similar belief: less is more. It is easy to see in his designs that simplicity is valued as well as functionality. His technique is also minimalistic, preferring fewer strokes and economy of motion. He is a master at his craft.

After Max honed my razor, I took it home and had the best shave of my life! Max is an excellent honemeister, but his real passion is restoration. I learned a lot from Max about razors and about the kind of work it takes to produce such fine pieces of art. If you like the photos you see of Max's razors, you will like them even more when you see them up close. If you are looking for a fine, vintage razor, Max's collection should be the first place you look.

as you're walking out of his place with the 5 razors you just purchased, just remember to tell SWMBO "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!"

Agreed, based on the consistently ridiculously awesome results I've been seeing on his restores, I say he's a shoe-in for the straight razor restore hall of fame.

I will chime in here and say Max is a very fine person. i have spoken with him a few times on the phone and always enjoy it immensely. He shares freely of his knowledge and is patient with questions that must really bore after a while. On top of being a good guy his work is flawless, and he has design tastes that are in my opinion, impeccable.

I'll give him a vote for the restorer hall of fame.

    Joshua,

what a surprise to see your thread. I didn't expect this. It was definitely a pleasure to have you over and the door is always open for you or anyone that's in the hood. I'm glad you finally had a good shave. In the end that's what counts.

As a side note I must say you have incredible good writing skills. It's very eloquent.

And thanks to everyone else for their kind words and support!

I'd be great if we ever have a SRP gathering in Vegas....

Max, from the posts of yours that I have read and the photos you post all of the praise you receive is the result of hard work and excellent results. You deserve every praise you receive and then some. Keep up the great restorations. I always look forward to seeing the result of your efforts!
