Thread: Nice razors at the gun show.

Went to the local show today with my buddy for the usual search for things we don't realize we need. He pointed out a str8 in the back of a cutlery dealer's display case. That one had seen too much stone work, but the dealer asked if I'd like to see some others he just got. Well...a Keen Kutter in great shape and some other nice blades (including a Craftsman), but I explained that I was after a 6/8 or bigger. This led me to tell him about blade sizes and wear patterns (he's a knife expert not up on str8s). He pulled the rest of them out and HOT DAMN, a virtually mint 7/8 Puma!! I reluctantly gave him the exorbitant sum of $30 for it and barely kept from cackling in glee as I strode away. I could of scored some nice 5/8s from him, but I have enough of those. (His most expensive blade was the Craftsman at $40.)
Moral of the story: you never know what sort of shaving gems you might stumble onto at a gun show.

I also read a pen repair forum and they had a survey of where folks got the best prices on old pens. The choices were antique stores, eBay, flea markets. Flea markets won .... some really good deals, like yours, can be had if the sellers don't know quite what they're selling.

I'd say you did quite well on your purchase of a 7/8 Puma for less than a small nation's GDP. :lol: I paid a measly $150.00 for mine Yeah, it was worth it.

Gun Shows are a great source for straight razors as they almost always have knife dealers there who sell straight razors. Sometimes you can find great prices and sometimes they want a lot of money for junk. It's always worth looking and asking. Lynn

speaking of flea market finds...i was wondering if there is any info on what to look for and what price ranges should be...i am going to be hitting up a flea market this weekend with knife dealers, and i dont want to miss out on the steal of the century...

are there brands to look for? from reading here i would say anything made in germany or france is a good blade...

any thoughts?
