    Default Hey, Long Blades

In the Yukon they have a term for people who can survive the winters there, Sourdough. One who has learned the necessities of far northern survival through first hand experience and can leaven bread in January without yeast. Today they just pay a baker to do it for them, but still attach some meaning to it. Then again, these days they also use disposables, eh.

Is there a term for you wise ones of the perfected shaves? Is there a one thousand shave pin I can expect?

And tell me this! Is it really a fact that you have grown to prefer those mad-hatted 6ths & 7/8? Is it simply the machismo of carving with an axe or is it some part of an inner circle of shaving? What is the truth?

Most of my razors are 5/8. I do have a 6/8+ Henckels Friodur as well. The 6/8 just shaves a little differently. It has some extra weight to it, so it cuts a little easier. Its size makes some parts a little tougher, such as the upper lip.

Different size razors just have different qualities. A lot of choosing a razor depends on your beard and skill level. I have a rather splotchy beard, and most of it isn't super tough, so a 5/8 works pretty well for me. A 5/8 is very maneuverable, and a little more forgiving since it doesn't have the extra weight. Tougher beards tend to prefer larger sizes.

Try 'em all. You can't have too many razors. If your wife says you have too many, open her closet and start counting shoes

Wise ones and not so wise ones call that the "Baby Butt Smooothe Shave"...lol. It really is personal preference on the width and weight of straight razors. I have a TI Egyptian 5/8 that shaves as good as any razor I have including a couple of 1 inchers. I really think that the edge is the main thing....always. Have fun. Lynn
