How many started because of SO being an SR user?
How many of you started shaving with a straight razor because of your significant other? Anyone just start on their own with this? Anyone "convert" their SO?

I started on my own in the early nineties. My wife just recently started to shave her legs with my razors:http://straightrazorpalace.com/shavi...aught-act.html

Yes and we are still waiting for Mrs Mark to join our ranks!
I was converted by Spike, who has now been here a year (congratulations darling). I'll admit to thinking it all a bit foppish to start with. Up to that point I had been a "shave everything in the bath with a disposable and canned foam" gal. Boy was my world changed!!
The first time you use the warm lather it's hard to look back. 11 months in for me, just had my first custom and no regrets (although a few new scars, hehehe).

Thanked: 171I've always hated shaving. I started with an electric when I was 15 or so, moved to a mach 3 when I was 19 or 20, a fusion a couple years after that, and finally one day I was completely fed up with shaving and it was time to buy cartridges again. I was always a little intrigued by the idea of shaving with a straight, but some internet searching led me to try out a DE first as sort of a stepping stone. I gave that a go for a couple months, and then decided that I was finally ready to try a straight. It was then that I discovered SRP, and found my true calling with straights.
My fiancee thinks I'm nuts obsessing about shaving. She thinks it's a weird thing to have a passion for, lol. And an even weirder thing to talk about on the internet.
Who knows, maybe someday she'll want to give it a go.

I am going to try to convert my SO. It'll be easier if I don't cut off my legs the first go, I suspect. (Though, one would think that if I cut one off, I'd stop before the other one went, too, right? I mean - the whole "you'll slice your neck open" thing has always been a bit odd. I know I stop right quick if I just *nick* myself, never mind going all horrorshow!.)
My plan:
Ellie (on two sound, smooth, attached legs): Darling - I shaved!
Ellie's Guy : Wow! So smooooth! What luscious smoothness! YOU deserve a man whose jawline is likewise smooth! I shall convert right this second!
Ellie : (Jumping) Hooray!
I am a dreamer.

I started SR shaving on a bit of a whim in college (a couple of years ago). I was sick of buying and disposing of disposables and liked the aspect of developing a feel for blades (I'm a bit of a jack-of-all-trades wannabe). Long story short, I picked up the hobby/obsession on my own.
In response to Elliette's conversion: I've had a few people try straight razor shaving (all liking it and one converting). I know that a few of them have noticed an improvement in their skin and a smoother feel to their hair due to straight shaving. Maybe you can convince your SO that way.

I have to admit it, I did convert because JoeD was using one. Took me a good 9 months after he started to gather up enough courage to do so. I did convert to a DE shortly after he started with the straight razors. He dug out his dad's superspeed for his then 13 yr old son to shave with and I started using it also. Blades for it were much less expensive than the venus razor I was using. Now JoeD's son is shaving with a str8 while he is with us on the weekends. He did take one of his DE's home to his mother's to shave with during the week. She wasn't thrilled with us giving him "somebody's dirty old razor" to shave with so I can just imagine what she would do if we sent him home with a st8!
Maybe one of these days when I really want to aggravate her to the max

I started st my SO-at-the-time's urging, but he wasn't using straights yet. I haven't converted the current partner, and doubt I will... he's mighty stubborn.

Thanked: 402LOL just as mine (and he's got a solid steel plate growing)!
Currently I'm working on my brother instead.
