Finally got my baby back
Today I had the great pleasure of being greeted with a box from SRD when I came home this afternoon.
My Dovo Bismarck that I dinged on the sink the Sunday before last is now back home where it belongs. It came back with the backup Dovo 5/8 spike point w/ebony scales that I ordered should I ever need a backup again. I also had to throw in a felt/cotton strop, some dia spray and chromium oxide, and a bottle of Dominica bay rum.
I mean, what good would a shipment have done me if there were nothing but razors in it?
I should have my 3 line Swaty some time next week unless the mail works in my favor and gets it here sooner. The collection is going well.
Thus ends another of my pointless ramblings. I just love having a place to share this stuff where there is actually a chance someone might care.
Brotherhood man, brotherhood.

I haven't tried it out yet. I applied the spray and such and am letting it dry.
I've actually just started to try my luck at honing. I have 6 vintage razors to play with.
I have a Norton 4k/8k, what I think now is an Arkansas, and I just snagged the Swaty off the classifieds and am waiting to get it in my hot little hands.
Of the 2 razors I've honed, one shaves pretty darn well, but the Henckels pulls really bad. I'm gonna see if maybe the pasted strops will smooth it out before I take it back to the Norton.

Thanked: 132For me, i found that the diamond and crox pastes have helped to smooth out any minor honing issues, i may have after my final surgical black (currently have the shapton 2k, 4k and black arky)...although i went with the 1 micron diamond paste, then the 0.5 crox for the strop.
I am still totally in the newbie faze when it comes to honing, though.

Both the dia spray and the crox are .5, but I've heard that the chromium can give a smoother edge for some people, so they work well in tandem.
I figure worst case I can find out which edge I prefer so I'll know which one to get in the future. i can always PIF the one I don't like.

Thanked: 132Yeah, ive read, other people on here comment that the diamond cuts better and crox makes the edge smoother...be cool to hear what your experiences are.
Also, what do you think about the diamond spray ya got. I was pretty tempted to get that from SRP. The diamond paste i got, was pretty hard to get evenly spread.

It went on very smoothly, and the freakin bottle is HUGE. Assuming I put enough on there (which I have no clue about) there should be enough there to last for years.
This is my first foray into sprays or pastes, so I don't can't compare it to the diamond paste.
As for its cutting ability, I should know tomorrow once it's dried and I run a razor or two over it.

Congrats on getting your razor back and ready to shave once again. You seem to be accumulating a good setup there. Happy shaving!

It is nice to be back on track again.
I tried the spray/paste strops today on 2 of my vintage razors. 1 of them (it has no makers marks) was already shaving well, but 15 laps on the dia and another 15 on the chromium really made it silky smooth.
My Henckels passed the HHT but was really rough on my face (to the point I couldn't use it). After hitting the new strops it now passes a HHT without a whisper (before it was an audible pop).
I had already shaved but I tested a bit on a little patch that I missed, and was even silly enough to do that dry. No pulling and it didn't turn me red. I think I may do tomorrows shave with it.
