Oh I'm certain me and my hammer would win...
*sigh* I'll do it again though. JoeD offered to give me some pointers so hopefully I can get this worked out. It's just frustrating after breezing through my first 2 honings with no problems.

Not all razors, as you have found out, are a dream to hone. Blade warp, odd bevels, types of steel and the shape of the blade all play into it. If you can't get it JoeD will hone it for free if you want to send it out. Or I can trade one of my Torreys for this one. Let's see what JoeD can help you out with.

Well thanks to JoeD I've picked up an awesome new technique. I straightened out some bevel issues that I wasn't even aware I had.
I'd used the sharpie method before, and it was coming off even...but apparently all was not as level as I'd thought.
Even with this though, I spent the better part of 3 hours trying to sharpen my shiny new bevel to no avail.
The bevel is more even, the edge bites into my thumbnail uniformly along the entire length...but it still wont' cut arm hair even at a 90 degree angle and leaning on the damn thing, let alone glide thru them held above the skin.
On the plus side, I think this new method will help me get all my GOOD razors even sharper.
This stupid thing still has me

I did initially do it directly after the thumbnail, but caught myself and did it straight from the stone the next time.
I think maybe it's just going to take a while on the stone. I was going about it wrong before, and the tips JoeD gave me have made a world of difference.
Considering improper technique, I've really only tried to hone it once. The first 2 times don't count.
Now that the bevel is even, I think I'll be able to get it sharp. I was just getting it to bite into my thumbnail evenly towards the end of last nights session, so I probably just didn't give myself enough time. I'm persistent, but I have a short fuse. I will see this through to the end...I'll just rant, rave, and curse the whole way there.
