I was born in Nov. '54 , so I wasn't paying for haircuts in '55 or anything else , for that matter . But I'll guess it was a dollar for a haircut , with a 15 cent tip .
Ooops you said shave , not haircut . Okay , for a shave I guess 50 cents , with a 10 cent tip .Last edited by dave5225; 06-15-2009 at 09:58 PM.

Just for some background here guys. In the early 1950s I remember going out to eat with the family and you got a full meal, appetizer main dish and dessert for around 90 cents. The Bus and Subway fare was 10 cents.
So the answer to this weeks brainbuster is in two parts. The price of a shave was 75 cents and a haircut was 85 cents.
As far as the tip goes the answer is zero because Andy owned the shop and the owner never got a tip in those days however Jimmy used to work for him and if Jimmy did the work the customery tip was ten cents.
Another note was that Andy did plenty of shaves. Mostly old timers who came into the shop throughout the day and on Saturdays (the shop was opened half a day Saturday and all businesses were closed on Sunday by law with the exception of drug stores and similar) the younger guys came in before a hot date or special occassion.
Stay tuned next Sunday for another Brainbuster to test you mental mettle of shaving trivia. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
