I confess.
Hi I'm Chris and I'm a Razoholic.
It all started innocently enough.
I read an article about striaght razors in a men's magazine. Then I saw one in a tobacco store. Later my wife dragged me into Sally's and another guy in there was asing if they had straight razors. I looked at what he did and bought the disposable blade Fromm. I took it home and tried it. Not knowing enough about technique I went slow and easy. I got an okay shave and didn't cut myself.
I was emboldened to try a real straight and impulsively bought a Sanguine Cool Cut off of e-bay. Then my father gifted me my a NOS Union Razor Cutlery Co. he found at my aunt's house, my grandfather's HF Loffler and my great-grandfather's Dubl Duck. With a lot of patience and some Arkansas stones I was shaving pretty regularly with a straight, grabbing a double edge for the rushed mornings. That was about four years ago.
Now I have more razors than I care to count. Some are great shavers, some are potentially great shavers that I haven't the time to work on. Some will be nice display pieces or will find their way back to an antique store. In spite of this I am always on the hunt for more razors. I go to antique stores and junk shops on my lunch breaks. I hunt yard sales and flea markets on the weekends. I faithfully check e-bay even though I really hate that site. I relish in my daily morning shave and wish my whiskers grew faster so I could shave more often.
I love bringing old blades back to life (haven't really gotten into restoration as I have 19 months old twins, when they're older, we'll see). My best shavers were bought for $15.00 or less. I love finding those hidden gems. I am also not picky, I will shave with the Sanguine, the Genco, the Dubl Duck, the Boker and the Dovo, yes I am a razor whore.
Gentlemen I confess, I'm a razorholic. I know of my affliction, it's technical term being Razor Acquisition Disorder (RAD). I actually think of it more a Razor Affective Disorder, as it affects me in multiple ways, I not only acquire but shave, clean, hone and promote the use of straight razors.
I am reaching out to others who share my affliction. Let us revel in our disfunction.
I am a razorholic, but I seek no cure, only more razors.

Hey Chris, welcome to SRP. You're definitely in the right place.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 2209Welcome to the SRP!
You have found the greatest concentration of RAD a holics in the world!
I should warn you that this is a progressive condition. It will morph into HAD then your friends will ask if the rocks are for the foundation of your next house and you will find that you really like long pieces of leather!
It is all good,Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Thanks all!!!
Randy, I'm knocking on wood that I don't end up with HAD. So far I can live with the few I currently own.
I do however admit to SSAD. I didn't realize how bad that affliction was until I looked in the drawer by the sink yesterday morning. There was at least six different soaps in there and I went and bought two more today.
I guess you could call that drawer my soap box, HA HA HA!!!

Thanked: 4942The good thing for all of you is the fact that we have a 12 step program in place for any of your acquisition disorders. The piece of mind in knowing this should certainly improve your outlook as your addiction(s) increases. Yes, I know our 12 step programs don't work, but it's the thought that counts. It is the inspiration that went into their development. Yes, yes, it's all about the well meaning.
So, as you spread the word through out the world about the greatest wetshaving experience being the straight razor shave and the wonder of how you now look forward to this experience every day and that you wish your beard would grow enough for 2 or three shaves per day, rest assured that there is always support for you.
Best regards,
Lynn

As you can tell, you have fallen into the right buch, and as Lynn mentioned our 12 step program does not work, enjoy the madness!

a razoholic coming here is like a drunk going to a bar don't you think?
