Thread: What do I need to get started?

It's been suggested before and I still think it's a great idea - we need to create 2 or 3 sticky threads or some Wiki entries that deal with this. One that tells guys that are just starting what to get as far as the basic setup to shave and refresh blades, one (much bigger list) that tells them what they'll need to clean up and restore razors they get from the bay, an antique store, or their grandfather's attic that don't need too much work, and another for those of us that have that need to deconstruct everything we touch so as to rebuild it as a much better product - or to take a nasty pile of rusted junk and turn it into a sweet shaving and looking razor.
It seems we go through this list almost weekly and if we had a couple of articles or threads it would be an easy matter to direct folks there. ...and I might find something listed that would make life easier as well.
I guess the Wiki is the easiest to create, manage, and update. Maybe start with a pair (or three) articles that cater specifically to the new user, one for basic restoration, and one for serious reconstruction and complete building of a razor with new scales. Start each with a fairly detailed outline and just let folks add items to the outline as we go.
If no one jumps on it maybe I'll try to start a few this week sometime. If you have a good list ready to go for one of those purposes start up a Wiki article and I'll try to find time to jump in as well. I keep thinking about doing that every time I read another one of these threads and it seems the by now we have sufficient data on it all to consolidate it into a few articles for reference. As I think about it though, if we start to list the stuff we've bought for restoration it might scare off someone new to all this. :-)

While we're at it, an article for blade buffing would be nice in Category:Repair & Restoration - Straight Razor Place Wiki

I don't think its really necessary to create a special thread for the matter. I typically point and a new straight shaver here and tell him to add to the set a brush, bowl, cream and/or soap.

Yo uwill notice that the set the knife center is calling a complete set is not really complete, which is the reason why I tell the new straight shaver to add a few things.
