Thread: Blade Dulls Quickly

I am a very lucky shaver today. My razors passed the (correctly administered) HHT with results that surprised me greatly. Meaning that I evidently have done a passable job with my hones. Yes, I was expecting the worst! I must say I am very relieved.

The HHT has always confused me honestly. I have 4 blades right now, one of them passes HHT with flying colors. Another one will not cut a hair at all...ive read numerous posts questioning the validity of the HHT due to the different thicknesses of the hairs being used.
The blade that doesnt pass the HHT still shaves quite well for me...so im not sure if i should attempt taking this blade on my swaty or not. Ive been straight shaving over a month now, perhaps im just used to this blade and maybe i would see some type of drastic improvement if i used my swaty.
I dunno, i just never took the HHT that seriously until i started reading this thread. I would always attempt to shave hairs off my arm...all my razors pass this test...but im not sure how effective it is.
Just my rant i guess

Since the title of the thread remains what it is...
Just thought I'd chime in with my own experience. I, too, was having a heckuva time with the blade dulling during my shave. I went through every theory under the sun about it until I tried lowering the shaving angle. Voila - no more dulling.
At first, it felt like a slightly less efficient way to shave. I hadn't been using a dramatically high angle to begin with, and the lower angle felt like it missed some hairs or didn't cut them quite as closely. Still, with a little practice, I realized that doing multiple passes with a truly sharp blade was the way to go, especially when I started looking at each pass as a reduction instead of trying to cut as closely as possible from every angle.Last edited by northpaw; 08-13-2009 at 03:04 AM.
