    Hello Invisable edge,
Your Bresnick is an early DD. Made before they moved to Jamaica New York in 1950 or so. Tedzepplen

I have one which is as you describe, but has "Dubl Duck" and "Special No. 1" on it as well as "Germany" and it shaves me well too. I heard they stopped shipping these to the US around 1941. Can anyone shed more light on if that's true and what happened in the late 40's and 50's to reestablish sales in America?

    Default DD clone Special #1

Dubl Duck continued to make special #1's right up until they went out of the razor Business. Most of the more common Ducks can be found with either the Bresnick New York or Jamaica New York Addresses. Depending on When they were imported.
Dubl Ducks were alway's very popular, especially with the pro's.
If your really interested in Dubl Ducks. I can send photo's of some rare and unusual Dubl Ducks in my collection. Or if you have a Dubl Duck you can't identify send me a photo and I will Identify it for you.

I guess your the DD expert here. it seems every time DD is discussed here the chronology of Bresnick, Bresduck and pearlduck designations seems to change.

I have a Bresduck marked Lifetime in blued steel. There is no mention of Doubleduck and it has a symbol of what appears to be a single rooster on the neck of the blade. Any ideas about it?

    Hey, Tedzepplen,

can you make a scans of some DD catalog? If you have one, ofcourse I found a C-mon catalog on the other site, I think having scanned catalogs here is a nice value for dating and identifying razors. That goes for all of you guys with razor catalogs and scanners...

I have one Satinedge, but with white plastic handles, with no decoration at all. On the e-bay i camed across a couple of Satinedges, with clear and pearloid handles, Satinedge logo, and brass ducks. Is my model catalog one, or the handles were replaced?

    thanx,

    Hello Superfly,
I have never seen a Satinedge with white scales. I suspect it has probably
been rescaled. Some of the very early Satinedges came with Black bakelite scales. The most common Satinedge came with clear scales with a gold washed Satinedge logo and Ducks. The fancier version has Clear scales and Brass inlays on the scales. The easiest was to date Ducks is to read the tang. If it say's Pearl duck Jamaica New York it was imported after 1950.
I have never been fortunate enough to find a DD book. Evertime I think I have seen all of the different variations of Ducks I come across one I have never seen or heard of.
If you go to the yahoo straightrazorplace gallery and look at Razor brands Dubl Duck I have several photo's of rare Ducks listed there including Satinedges, Lifetimes, Gold and Wonderedges. Also Check Duck Blind for some more Duck photo's.

I've never seen definitive evidence, but I believe Bresnick started out as a cutlery store in New York. Then they started importing and branding their own razors about 1930 ..... My oldest dubl duck only has two ducks on the front scale, and no name. The blade's front tang is smooth, but the back tang has a stamped semi-circle with two ducks in it and 'BRES??CK New York'; also 'MADE IN GERMANY' close to the pivot:

As $oon as I figure out how much to a$k for it, it'll go on the auction block, probably with most intere$t to the collector $ide of razor buying. I've kept it as-acquired except for a good scrubbing and hand-polishing to remove trace rust stains.
