Thanked: 0Murray Carter doesn't use aoko, only blue super/AS and white #1. I don't remember the quote, but after looking at what is being made as custom these days, the price doesn't seem that out of step. The wait is what would kill me, minimum 6 mths., he is pretty backed up right now.

Thanked: 2209You used a magic word there, Aoko, a natural japanese waterstone, right? So, what is "blue super/AS and white #1" stand for?
Really would like to know a source for those natural japanese waterstones.
TIA,

Thanked: 0Hi Randy,
one source is a shop here in Germany specialized on woodworking, the address is
http://www.dick.biz/
They have an "English version" button and under "Tools", "Sharpening Tools" you find all kind of japanese natural stones.

You might be referring to some natural blue stone. There are several sources for natural stones, but if you are looking for a polishing stones, you can expect to pay a fortune and might not get what you are looking for. My understanding is that the consistency is just not there when it comes to these stones in anything other than the coarser grits. There are some excellent stones that act like natural stones (Kitayama others) without the pitfalls of paying $$$$$ (thousands perhaps) for a natural stone with no guarantees.
I will dig up some links for these stones for you Randy; as well as some discussions of same.
