I've had some irregularities in razors that I can only see by reflecting a light off the edge as I move it up and down. Most of them that I couldn't see otherwise I've been able to get out using .5 micron chromium oxide on a linen strop. Once I can actually see them, I have to send them out to get honed.

I know what you're talking about, I had a couple of little marks like that one my DOVO. I suspect from poor stropping whilst I was learning..! I've been using the straight exclusively now for a couple of months so I've got my stropping pretty good now..!

I got some Shaptons the other day and I touched it up on that. About half a dozen strokes on the 16k was all it took. I did 15 passes on a denim strop with 0.5 diamond spray afterwards, then strop on canvas with chalk (40 strokes), then on to the leather for 50 strokes and it was good to go!

You could also use a barber hone or some sort of pasted strop with either CrOx or Diamond Spray as well. I saw a post a while back now where someone mentioned using 1, then 0.5 and then 0.25 diamond spray on a paddle strop as a touch up method, or as a finish after honing.

It is quite possible that the microchip you are referring to might be bigger than you can repair with just a barbers hone or a pasted strop. If that is the case, you will need to have it honed to get rid of it.

If you do need it honed look at this thread and pm me if you are interested, I have room for a few more.

    Good Luck,

    Ray

How does it feel when you shave ? If it isn't bothering you physically I would say you needn't do anything with it until it does. If it is bothering you then honing is in order. Having some sort of magnification such as a 30x eye loupe or better yet a microscope is helpful to assess a razor's edge.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
