My Tony Miller story
I started off using the Ruprazor.com Filly. Let me first say that this is a great priced starting point for newbies. For only 20 dollars you get a very nice piece of material and a pasted side that will benefit you greatly even after you purchase a new strop...which is what i decided to do recently.
First off let me just thank all of you people for providing me with such a huge collection of knowledge. I simply did multiple searches for different strop brands...after the overwhelming amount of positive reviews I knew I wanted the best....so of course decided on buying a Tony Miller piece.
After reading a thread on the forums here, and looking at the front of Tonys page I realized he was going through some family health issues. When sending Tony a message about how i have decided on his strop, I was sure to let him know there was absolutely no hurry in constructing or shipping my strop.
Tony msged me his phone number because I did have some questions regarding technique and material information. Without going into his personal details, I will say that on the particular day i called Tony that last thing he needed to do was talk to a newbie who was curious about his product. But he did, actually stating that the 15 or so minutes we talked helped him gain his bearings. Tony made excellent suggestions for me and answered questions that didnt even pertain to his strops. He suggested i go with latigo over horsehide, cotton over linen. Bear in mind, both of these suggestions saved me money on HIS actual product.
Its very rare for someone to actually talk to you about their product, and then go on to suggest you go the cheaper route. After hanging up the phone, I was taken back by the genuine interest Tony showed in my overall shaving progress. At one point i remember saying "I dont want to keep you any longer" and he quickly replied with "let me just touch on your cotton vs linen question" and went on for another ten minutes explaining the differences. I would have completely understood if he told me he was unable to talk, but he helped me anyways.
Thanks Tony, for helping me and not just suggesting i buy the most expensive product you sell. I am honestly humbled at my overall experience with you. I will steer everyone who asks to your product. Very sorry for your loss
I ended up buying the 3" Artisan "New Standard" Strop, with red latigo and smooth cotton. This strop is breathtaking...it has improved my shaves drastically.
Anyways, sorry for rambling on...i just wanted to share my overall joy with this strop and the wonderful help that came along with it.
