I never strop, never hone. I am so manly that my whiskers are abrasive. Nothing like a good shave to sharpen my latest eBay score

On the abrasion scale it goes

    Plain leather
    Linen/Cotton/Webbing
    Pasted Felt
    Pasted Leather
    Pasted Balsa
    Hones
One thing I've been a little confused about, is where newspaper falls in this spectrum. Is it before or after plain leather?
    Thanks,

    Thanks,

It falls on the kitchen table right next to my morning coffee where it belongs

I have never used it to be truthful so I defer to somebody with more knowledge of the finer art of the newsprint strop...

Or like the lumberjacks of Paul Bunyan's day who had beards so tough that the only "shave" they could get was to hammer the hairs and bite the stubble off from the inside.

Effective? Dunno, but it saves a lot of honing and stropping and a lot of honing and stropping discussion.
