Congrats and welcome to the club!
I also have to wait a few days between shaves just like on my face. Some tips would be to make sure your razor is keen, have a styptic handy because head nicks bleed like crazy, and take your time -- especially around the back.

I've been trying to shave my head with a straight for weeks now. I usually end up with too much stubble on the back and to many nicks. Still... If it doesn't kill me I shall persevere.
