Elliptical Beard Shape
Just ran into a very dry scientific study of the "Structural Characteristics and Mechanical Behaviour of Beard Hair"...
SpringerLink - Journal Article
I could not find much applicable to straight razor shaving. But, it was interesting that "the majority of the beard hair samples had an elliptical type cross section." Attaching a picture of cross-sections.
I will now adjust my shaving procedure to shave in such a way as to ensure that my razor slices the hair thru the thinnest cross-section of the beard hair. Yea! That's the trick. Why didn't Lynn tell us all about this before?
Think how much wear and tear on a blade edge this will save!
(Your other tip... a throw in... is a fool-proof method for hitting a curve ball: hit it BETWEEN the seams!)
You are welcome!

From another source... "White Americans' beard hair is very elliptical and unusually shaped."

Looks to me like you have stumbled upon an amazing fact. Now you need to fabricate an elliptical razor which will match those hairs like a lock and key thereby giving the best shave in the world.
