Thanked: 235I take back what I said. What was I thinking? You can save the blade by shortening it, but save those beautiful scales for another good blade. Just like what Jimmy said.

Because of the pretty scales I would say you did fine. One thing though, it is easy to crack the scales at the pivot trying to remove the blade. If you're thinking along those lines send it to someone experienced with restores for best results.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
