Sorry to get off an a sentimental tangent here, but I want to say thanks to you and all the other vets in this forum for their service.
My father was also in Vietnam, arriving in '66 via enlistment. He was an MP and was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor device. It wasn't until recently that he spoke to me and my brother about his experiences then, and it was as you described above; a little humorous, a little sad, but mostly tragic.
I think I might just ask him about shaving back then and see if he mentions the shave routines used in those jungles.
