    Default Blades that don't sing.

I was on the verge of being a failed straight razor shaver. My TI left me wondering what's all the huh, bub, as Bugs would say. I sent it to Randy for honing; I just got it back, and man, is it ever sharp.

But, after one shave I have to say I don't really care for the TI. I bought a vintage razor from a member and it has a heavy blade. I find that razor to be a lot easier to use. It could be all in my head but I was just getting comfortable with cross handed shaving using the vintage razor, with the TI it seemed like my left hand couldn't hold blade steady. Not the best feeling to have when you're holding a very sharp blade to your neck. I admit that I need more practice with my left hand, but still.

Anyone else not like a lighter blade, or am I being neurotic?

Different strokes for different folks (no pun intended). Some guys seem to gravitate to the heavier metal and some like the lighter stuff. Personally I have both and I like the medium weight the best. I use the heavier blades when I skip a day. I usually rotate my razors so with about 30 in my rotation I never get used to any particular size or style but if you shave consistantly with one razor you do get used to it and switching is more difficult.

i have two straights and they are both ti's - the club razor (light) and a bison horn 6/8 from lehmans.com (heavy). i like them for different reasons. the bison is heavy, hefty spine and just beautiful. i too would choose this one for the two or three day growth. just would plow through it. but as i have said before, the club razor is the sports car, nifty, agile and raring to go with excitement.

I have mixed feelings here as I have razors from 3/8 to 7/8 full hollow to wedge. I shave with all of them and enjoy different blades but the one I enjoy most is a 7/8 heavy wedge sharpened by Lynn. It works for me weither I have one days growth or three. It glides with ease and is very steady.

I have one of the TI historic series, the blank of which was hammered by Pierre Thies, 1 of 400 or something like that. When its keen, you can blow sharply across the edge and it will "sing" .... get a ringing sound. Too Kewl !

I don't know which TI you have, but they do make big razors. I have to say that, from my experience, the upper level TIs are among the finest shaving razors I've experienced. There are very few I would put in this category. It sounds like your problem has more to do with the size of the razor than the brand.
