Thanked: 4I'll second that preference for 6/8 if limited to one size. A good compromise between a light blade and heavy, suitable for most beards.

I also think that the 6/8 would be a better choice than 5/8. I think it also will be easier for them to grind it... And I would love a spike, but think that the round point is the grind of choice now... Whatever is easier to do...

Okay Kyle, are you interested in a 6/8? It would appear that's becoming popular. And I really hate to seem ignorant, but what's the difference between a spike and a round point? I'm assuming you're talking about the edge opposite the heel, right? Why is one better than another?

I prefer a 7/8 but agree that a 6/8 would offer a good compromise.

I'm not opposed to 6/8 at all. Most of my razors are 5/8, and I rarely nick myself. My 6/8+ Friodur (honed by Lynn) gets me every time. I'm not used to the extra weight -- it weighs double what my 5/8 weigh.

Wouldn't a semi-round offer greater access than fully round to some of those tight spots? Thinking of under the nose and around the ear.

Round point is more 'forgiving" than spike. If you are not careful, or if the tip of the spike is rough, it can scratch you. But with well done spike, I don't think that's an issue. In general, spike offers more control in those tuff-to-reach places... Semiround, spike, whatever...
Kyle, wanna trade that mad dog? I found myself better with bigger blades...

It looks like we might have a general consenses on size. I'm not too particular about the point, so at this time I just need somebody to volunteer a 6/8 to ship in for analysis. Any takers?
