Floyd's Barber Shop
A funny thing happened today. I went to Melrose Avenue (Los Angeles) with my wife who was looking for some boots for her Halloween costume. In case you don't know, Melrose is a street that caters primarily to the young hip-hop and punk rock crowd. Loaded with hip boutiques and restaurants. So we were walking down the street when I saw a sign that said "Floyd's Barber Shop, Old School Service" on the next corner. As I looked inside, I noticed a DJ station with a couple of turnatables, presumably for scratching. In the number one chair was a young barber, late twenties I guess, with several facial piercings and tattoos. He was kind of scary looking. Guess what? He was giving some dude a friggin' shave. With a Straight Razor! A Dovo 4/8 from what I could tell. He looked dead serious and was doing a very thorough job as I watched him for a few minutes. The customer looked to be about the same age as the barber. I should have taken a damn picture; it was pretty cool.

I was wondering, can Barbers do shaves with straight razors in California, all the barbers here in Texas say they cant do it due to health dept regulations,I had a straight razor shave in a private barber shop in Wash D.C. last month and it was great.Athorough job with all the amenities ,took almost an hour.Reminded me of when I was young(many years ago) There is nothing finer than an hour spent in the chair with a barber who knows what hes doing(although I usually sleep through most of it.......Also want to say how much I enjoy this forum and all of you guys Best regards Gary
