A glass hone? I wonder how they made that. Heck, I wonder if the darn thing actually works.

An effective way of preserving the edge on a DE blade is apparently to fill a glass with water and then rub the blade back and forth on the inner wall.

Sharpening a blade is simply diiferent degrees of polishing. I'd personally never buy a glass hone, but I'm sure it works.

I imagine it sounds HORRIBLE, like fingernails on a chalk board.

There were many glass DE hones. They come up on ebay from time to time. I have one that is like a little green saddle......lol. Lynn

This got me wondering about using frosted or acid etched glass which would have a fine texture on the surface much like a ceramic barber hone. I am going to try a few samples and see how they do.

frosted top edge of a car window works nicely for knives.

My mother tells me that while she was visiting relatives in Cuba during the 60's, my Uncle shaved with a double edge razor blade - no razor, just the blade pinched between his thumb and index finger. They were quite poor, so new razor blades weren't happeneing. He sharpened his on the inside of a drinking glass before shaving.

That is so cool. I've thought of doing that myself once. I've also thought about shaving with a DE stuck in a popsicle stick the way criminals in prison make killing straight razors....I once read about a guy somewhere that shaved with a straight razor and stropped on rubber or a tire or something....I forget the post, but stuff like that (ingeniuty) seems really cool. Sorry if I'm rambling, just got back from the gym...
