Thanked: 0Thanks Guys!
To Everyone:
I just want to thank you all for running such a great community. I've been just wandering around reading on various topics for several weeks now and today I felt educated to take "the plunge." As of this evening I'm the proud owner of a Dubl Duck Wonderedge. Lynn, I got started with your video. You professed your undying love for that razor in just a few words. It was clear to me at that moment I was going to have to procure one. Today was my day.
I'll be around seeking advice on honing and stropping for sure. I'm currently using a Murkur DE with all the proper fixings. This simply seemed like the natural progression for the man who demands the "ultimate shave." Thats right, I've become obsessive. =]
Again, thank you all. I look forward to participating now as my str8 adventure begins!

Ive had a DD for about 30 years and its still one of my favorites Ive had it apart a couple of time to re nickle and gold wash the tang and a good cleaning, but other than that cosmetic stuff its been perfect,I usually shave regularly with that and a Puma, also got a seven day set I use some,I wish I could get my son to go cut throat so I could pass all this stuff down to him.I think you made a great choice Enjoy Gary

Thanked: 0Thanks Gary.
I think that the whole approach to classic shaving (not to rip off the fantastic site, but the terms appropriate) is making a comeback. I've noticed most things to do with mens grooming are getting popular. Many of my friends are either interested in classic shaving or are currently making the move. I'm in my 20's so maybe there's still a chance your son may come around.
On a side note, my father believes I'm a little nutty. He has slowly coughed over my grandfathers shaving supplies as he finds them (a Gillette DE, badger brush thus far and swears there’s a str8 somewhere) but pokes a little fun at me. As the rest of the world makes "progress" moving to multi-blade razors, I've gone all Zen on him...read: less is more. Sure, it might make for entreating conversation but after getting good with my DE, I know better. Regression is key! =]

Funny, I am sure that if my father was alive ( he would be 89) would be shaking his head at me for using a str8. I am not sure my son will use one when he is old enough. I guess the sons always know more than their fathers

Welcome Bill
As another obsessive type I can tell you that you'll have a lot to keep you busy. Get that razor honed by a master if you haven't already and you'll be sure to have some sweet shaves coming up. Strop extra carefully and you shouldn't need to rehone it for a while. I was all set on a new Dovo for my first, but saw a Dubl Duck special that was about to go for $12 on ebay and I couldn't resist. It's an awesome shaver for me too.

Yea, now before you know it you'll have dozens of straights multiple brushes, several soaps and creams and shelves full of aftershaves and so many strops the hook will be coming out of the wall. Don't say we didn't warn you!

Thanked: 0What have I gotten myself into!!
I've been pondering the following items:
Trumpers Coral Skin Food
Trumpers Rose shaving cream
Classic Shaving Soap
I'm using Trumpers Lavender right now and love it...although it took me a while to learn to work up a proper lather. Because of that I'm low and reader to try the soap and the Rose. I wish I could get the Skin Food from classicshaving as well so I could shop in once place but the folks @ QED have been fantastic with the questions I've had so far. I'm also looking forward to adding a little Skin Food to my lather to get a smoother shave as I've read in some threads.
