Shave Elements Outline
When I started shaving with straight razors, I didn't have the "big picture" in mind. I focused on the shave to the detriment of preparation. I think if I would have had an outline, similar to that shown below, that placed all the major elements of a good shave experience in front of me, it would have helped. I would have been more balanced in my approach.
The outline is rough, dashed together quickly. But, useful or confusing in concept?
FACE
--------Preparation
----------------Applicants----------------Water, soaps, oils
----------------Temperature--------------Hot, cold
--------Shave
----------------Movement-----------------Stretching
BLADE
--------Preparation
----------------Sharpness
----------------Smoothness----------------Bevel
----------------Straightness
--------Shave
----------------Elevation-----------------Typically, 30 degrees
----------------Pressure------------------Light
----------------Direction------------------WTG, XTG & ATG
----------------Motion--------------------Straight, scything, slicing
I reviewed the Wiki, and didn't find an outline like this. There are great wiki's for each of the elements!
As a cross check of the inclusiveness of the above outline, think of the most commonly dispensed advice. Is it contained in a category above?

I think that is a great idea. I know it would have helped me out, and that seems to address all the issues that new straight shavers, particularly if they are brand new to wetshaving, would want to address.

Thanked: 1903I think that's a great idea. Two ways to do this: a boring old list, or Extension:WikiMindMap - MediaWiki.

Thanked: 1903Sort of. Screenshots - FreeMind - free mind mapping software is the program I used to produce the images, but this Wiki extension goes further and lets you do some fancier stuff, like embedding links to the respective articles. I think this might be a nice way of presenting the process in a form more people can identify with.

I perused the FreeMind and WikiMindMap links. There have been other similar products I've used in the past. And, that certainly ties in with my thoughts.
To flesh out my thoughts more, it seems a Shave Elements outline of sorts would be useful. And, with this in place, it would guide the creation of a Troubleshooting Guide. Well, Troubleshooting Guides are typically hyperlinked affairs. A bit like the FreeMind and WikiMindMap products, if I understood them.
A Shave Elements outline could be the glue for the great SRP wiki's; a bit of an overlay. And, if the "glue" linked to the articles, it would be a good enhancement I believe.Last edited by LarryAndro; 10-24-2009 at 06:18 PM.

Thanked: 1903My feelings exactly. But Da Bomb is AWOL, and his young evil minion is getting married. So don't hold your breath.

That is stunning! And, exactly what I had in mind.
The outline in the original post above easily drops into the WikiMindMap structure, collapsing and expanding as needed. And, of course, as can be seen in the WikiMindMap example here, many other topics should be included in the final macro structure of linked resources and topics.
