I too received a Dovo last Christmas it was not shave ready out of the box but it has been honed and is now a favorite in the rotation.

I can vouch for DOVO
My first razor purchase was a Dovo from Ray at Classicshaving. I tried shaving with it a couple of times which, was a couple times too many. The packaging claimed it was "ready for use". However, it was the furthest thing from shave ready. Of course, being my first straight razor, I didn't know the difference. What I did know was that I was destroying my face. Well, one visit to Dr. Lynn and whalla! No more problems!
Today I received the Hen & Rooster 5/8 I purchased from Tony. I can't wait to put it to use tomorrow morning. This bad-boy is shave ready. Pops hairs with ease!! Thanks, Tony! Now I need to talk about a 4-sided paddle strop...

Jeff,
If you don't already have a strop, I would wait until receiving one before using that newly sharpened razor!

I've got a hanging, unpasted strop. I'm just looking for something which I can keep/restore an edge. I want to start to learn to hone, but I think I need to know exactly what I need to start honing (besides a 4000/8000 norton) before I go out and purchase a stone.
I'm thinking maybe a 4-sided pasted strop will be a good start to start learning how to put an edge on a razor.
With respect to my new H&R, Tony honed it for me before he shipped it out. So, it's shave ready. It passes both the HH and the WTN tests.Last edited by str8rzrshvr; 11-10-2005 at 07:39 PM.

Thanked: 2209A 4 sided strop and some abrasive pastes would be a good choice.

str8rzrshvr,
You made my day <g>. I always worry whether the razors I sharpen actually met the needs of their new owners. I sharpen as best I can, test on my thumb then send them out and hope for the best. I don't shave with them first so have no real feedback other than from those I sharpen for myself which with my tough beard don't always perform as I hoped.
Glad to here it passed both the HH and the WTN tests.
I have 2 more Hen & Roosters here is anyone is still looking.

Rockwell Solignen (unfortunate begginner)
well i was unlucky enough to be duped, i bought one and i haven tried it, i did purchase one of these that takes a removable blade, i know that this makes the experienced among you gents cringe...and my thought process was this, if i like what i am doing i will expand my knowledge, as well as form a little technique in which to shave if im not happy , well no harm no foul. I like the finish i get i enjoy the process and believe it or not i like the out come, i have caused myself no injury and am looking forward to stepping up to you experienced guys and saying ok...now you can tell me what i need to do it properly.
I am delighted to have your knowledge and experience to consult and query and i appreciate it, not to mention my wife ( who is a NC resident, and site nurse practioner in our local hosp.)we are in scotland for now. I look forward to asking you what i need to do it properly and will return before long with my questions.
thanks guys...all of you...coully
