Display Case for Straights
I am going to make a Riker-style display case for my straights. I thought that I would use plexiglas to reduce the possibility of breakage. Will the plexiglas harm the celluloid scales on a razor or for that matter any other type of scale? Will the celluloid harm the plexiglas? Has anyone had any experience in this matter?

Why not glass?
I think glass would look better, and in case the celluloid started to go, I'd rather have glass on top of it than plexiglass. Either way, keep a close eye on them, especially if they will be near any strong light. The type case you mention (if I have the right one in mind) are fairly inexpensive. Lined with foam inside, you rest the items on the foam and then close the glass top to the case, and it pushes the items down into the foam to hold them. Is that the one?

Display case
Threeput,
That is right. The razor will lay on a felt covered foam and when the lid is closed the glass will rest on top of the razors. I kind of thought that because after celluloid gets very old it becomes kind of unstable. I just wondered if anyone had had any experience along this line.

Display case
Lynn,
I am going to have to confess that I had good intentions of making a couple of cases for my straights. Well, my mistake was surfing thru eBay and finding two Riker-style display cases which really looked nice. They were made from oak had locks on them (to keep grandkids out), glass, felt covered foam etc.
I had already gone to Lowes and priced some stuff like a cheaper wood and other additions and these two were just a little bit more in price than what I was planning. The kicker is they were a hell of lot nicer, with nicer wood etc., than what my tools would allow me to make. So, you guessed it, I was the only bidder and got them for a reasonable price. Sorry, maybe I will make a display case one of these days. I will, when I get some of the razors restored and put in a case, post a picture if you still want it.
