Ok so the title is not exactly accurate but relevant .

Given the availability of 1 nice new Barber Hone or 1 nice almost-new razor of good vintage quality which would you spring for?

Man, that's really tough for me. Personally, I'd probably go for the razor because I have a nice set of stones already. However, a nice new Barber Hone is a good find... I don't know what I'd do to be honest. It would really depend on the razor...

Yeah I've been running the question through my head for a couple days. Some day good barber hones won't be as easy to find as they are today (if it can be called easy as it is)

And depending on the brand we're already feeling the pressure for nice vintage razors.

It would depend but unless I really wanted that particular brand of barber hone badly I would opt for the razor.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I'd take the razor. I've had some nice barber hones, and I don't care for them; I prefer larger hones. I also have a view of hones that I only keep what I need for my honing progression... and whatever was given to me as a gift.
