Thanked: 1903Things I learnt during my previous 1000 posts
Dear fellow SRP members,
I hope this message finds you alive and well. This being my 2,000th post, I thought I might wrap up what I have learnt since 06-07-2009.
As far as the site is concerned, there's been quite a bit more change since my last milestone post, mostly under the surface. I like it. The Wiki is maturing, and has apparently turned into a useful resource. You're now able to produce printable PDF files (aka Wiki books). The reviews got a nice facelift, and are now better than ever. The Straight Razor Database is slowly approaching 600 razors. I had been hoping for more, but then again, many of the big brand names are in there already.
- Big blades are good. Bigger blades are gooder. As my technique gets better, I am learning to appreciate 8/8 razors.
- There is more to life than lavender, lime, and sandalwood. In fact, there is even a life beyond Castle Forbes. But when it comes to lime, nothing beats Castle Forbes's shaving cream.
- Apart from face preparation, stropping is the single most underestimated contributing factor to a successful shave. Being the proud owner of the three best strops on earth, and having received a stern stropping lesson from Bart, my edges now last forever.
- Even if they don't, I can now fix every problem I have with any of my razors with just one hone, a Coticule. Thanks again to Bart for another round of lessons. Honing life can be fun!
- Organising a European SRPCon can be rather challenging. But you can have lots of fun, even if you're only four people. Especially if you manage to buy a Dorko 8/8 300 in the process.
- Speaking of NOS razors, they are generally overpriced. Unless you're looking for a specific model and make, you'll be much better off financially buying something from the Classifieds.
So here's to another 1000 posts. As always, it's an honour and a privilege to contribute to a forum full of great, enthusiastic people.
Best wishes,
RobinLast edited by BeBerlin; 11-14-2009 at 07:23 AM.

Congrats Robin ! & big ups for all your input
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Indeed, Robin, your reviews and posts are some of the best around.
So, wait...what are the three best strops in the world? The Old Natural and what?
