Water hardness / shaving lubricity....
I posted this on SMF and to save typing, here it is:
In another thread I've been having fits with the CF creams, while others adore it. We do have somewhat hard water in my area, and I was wondering what everyone thinks about lubricity with shaving as related to water hardness. My brother has a system on his house, I have to make sure and shave there next time I visit. Anyway, I don't have too much of a problem with most soaps or creams, and get enough lather, but it stands to reason that softer water would lather much more easily and feel more slippery on your face. Thoughts? Among the other reasons to get a system such as wardrobe longevity, skin and hair benefits, and plumbing longevity, this may be the straw to sway me. Hadn't thought of this before. Yes I'm that anal HAH! Thanks for your inputs. .......Jeff
Using a str8, having a slick lather is of utmost importance. Any of you guys feel like chiming in on this one?

Water hardness makes a significant difference. We have very hard water in this area. The few times I've forgotten to add salt to the system I couldn't even get bath soap to lather. Shaving was downright unpleasant.

Makes a big difference!
Where I live, the water is hard. I was visiting relatives in Madison, WI and they have soft water. I'll tell you, the difference is like night and day. The shaves I had in WI were head and shoulders more comfortable and closer than those I get a home. The lubricity is also much better. There's no comparison between hard and soft water.

Jeffs right. Where I live all our water comes from wells and is harder than a whores heart. I got 10 cases of distilled water (6 gallons per) for free from work and then bought a Sunbeam hot shot water dispencer for shaving. The tap water here would plug it up vary quickly, so I've been using the distilled water. I use about a fifth of the cream I used to and get more lather. After I run out of distilled I'll have to invest in a softener.

Thanked: 1Don't forget the at-the-kitchen reverse osmosis system for the best drinking water ever. Not to mention the best tasting coffee. If my wife had to choose between our soft water system and me, I'd have to change my middle name to hobo.
